Manual Retweet Or Automatic Retweet: Which Has More Value?

If you are just the average “Joe”, the value of your tweets likely has never crossed your mind.  If it did, it probably doesn’t cause you to lose sleep at night.  If you are a business or service though, the value of tweets just might haunt your dreams at night.

What is Value?

When it comes tweeting, all retweets have value in a certain sense and especially from a business point of view.  To give an example, if Pepsi comes out with a brand new product, they want to get that message out there quickly and with as much exposure as possible.  So a company representative will post a tweet from their marketing department that will grab your attention and make you buy the product to try.  Now every time that particular tweet is retweeted, either manually or automatically, that auto retweet has value to Pepsi because it is getting their new information out there.

Give it a Whirl Yourself

When discussing value in retweeting, one advantage of doing it manually is that, to refer to the previous example, your followers will not be flooded with hundreds of retweets from you in their friend stream that mention Pepsi in any way.  You may find yourself quickly “unfollowed” by quite a few of your formally happy followers.  By manually retweeting, you are ensuring that you are sharing what you really believe will be of interest to your followers.

Set it and Forget it

An automatic retweet is exactly what it sounds like.  Your account automatically retweets without you doing a thing.  Some users do this just to fill up their stream and most of their followers will find it a waste of time.  One good thing about auto retweets is that if your keywords are fairly specific, you will find that you are retweeting posts with great content that your followers are actually interested in and have use for.  Let’s say that you own or run a hunting business.  If you have deer hunting as a keyword, your auto retweets will likely be read and appreciated.  If you have the same business but choose painting as a keyword because you are personally interested in it, you will likely get some comments and questions.  You want to have retweets that are relevant to your niche.

Ultimately, the choice of manual or automatic is yours.
